Neutrois vs Non-Binary
Non-binary is the shelf; neutrois is one specific shape on it: a neutral gender, often with a wish for a body that gives nothing away.
The short version
Non-binary is the umbrella word for a gender that isn't man or woman: both, neither, partly, or something those two words don't reach. It is broad on purpose. Two non-binary people can look nothing alike, want completely different things from their bodies, and use different pronouns. What they share is the mismatch, not the solution to it.
Neutrois is one of the solutions. Not male, not female, and not both at once: something closer to a setting of zero, a blank where the answer is supposed to go. For many people it comes with wanting a body that gives nothing away. Less body, not a different body. Almost every neutrois person is also non-binary. Not every non-binary person is neutrois.
How to tell them apart
Which one is more likely
More likely Neutrois if…
- Your mental picture of yourself has no chest, no hips, not much jaw. You want less body, not a different body.
- Sir and ma'am land the same, both slightly wrong in the same way, and there is no secret flicker of pleasure at either.
- Compliments come in two piles, handsome and pretty, and there is nothing in either pile you want.
More likely Non-Binary if…
- You feel like both, or partly one, or something that hasn't been named yet. Anything other than a neutral zero.
- You have no picture at all of how you want to look, and a very clear list of how you don't.
- You need a word that works on a form, in a room and at the doctor's. Non-binary is understood; neutrois is used less than it was and usually needs explaining.
- Nearly always, in one direction. Neutrois is the specific shape and non-binary is the shelf it sits on; most neutrois people can and do say non-binary in public.
- If nothing in the body section rang true and neutral is only about pronouns for you, plain non-binary or agender may sit more easily. That does not disqualify neutrois; both words stay yours.

What people get wrong
Questions people ask
Is neutrois non-binary?
Yes, almost always. Neutrois is a neutral gender, which is neither man nor woman, and that is what non-binary means. Neutrois is the specific shape; non-binary is the shelf it sits on. Use the wider word where it saves you an explanation, and the narrower one where the neutral part matters.
Do I have to want surgery to call myself neutrois rather than non-binary?
No. The word grew up around wanting a physically neutral body, which is why it filled a gap, but there is no threshold. Some neutrois people take nothing and do nothing. Non-binary likewise requires nothing of your body. The word describes a gender, not a procedure list.
