The flags

Every flag we could verify.

35 of the 138 identities have a community flag with a settled stripe set — where a designer and a date are on record, the flag page shows them. Two expression terms on this site have a flag too, and they are on the wall below. The other 103 don’t have one everyone agrees on, so they show as a hatched swatch. Inventing a flag for someone else’s identity isn’t ours to do.

Method

How we verify a flag

Designer and date on record. A flag goes on the wall when we can trace who drew it and when. Where a date is on record but the designer isn’t, the flag page says so in plain words rather than guessing.

The most-used stripes when sources disagree. Hex values drift between reproductions. We show the set most sources reproduce, and we note the drift instead of hiding it.

Hatched when there is no consensus. If the community hasn’t settled on one flag, the swatch stays hatched and we don’t invent one. The full method is in our editorial policy.
